With less than 2 weeks till VIP kicks off the 2009-2010 choir year, I'm happy to tell you that postcards were mailed to all current and many prospective members! We have plenty of postcards left, so if you want one to give to a friend, just contact Holly or Bonnie Dean.
When I look at the stack of postcards, just waiting to hit the mailbox, I always wonder about the people who will read them. Somebody (probably Chad) is going to get it and jump for joy that he FINALLY is invited to VIP. {I think Chad has been ready to join VIP for about 5 years now -- and now that he's in the 6th grade, we're glad to welcome him in!}
Other postcards will land in the hands of kids who don't give a hoot about VIP and aren't the least bit interested, but I hope that (at some level) they'll be glad to have been invited.
And then, there's a whole other group of kids who have received a postcard year after year but never tried VIP. This year, they will get the postcard and instead of tossing it, they'll hang onto it for a minute and think about joining the choir. And someone (their Mom or a friend in the choir) will say, "You know, you really should give VIP a try."
As I look at this year's junior and senior classes, I have to shake my head at the number of VIPs who sat on the sidelines and watched VIP for years before they actually joined. They've become some of VIP's strongest singers, greatest leaders, and all-around choir champions.
While we sometimes joke about how long it took for Kate, Kerry, Dylan, Tara and others to become part of VIP, I know that God has a plan for each of them and for VIP, and that he leads all of us in his way and at his time. God's planning and timing are perfect -- we just have to be faithful enough to follow it! Sometimes that means people join VIP in 6th grade with the first postcard and other times, they receive postcards year after year before something changes within them and they give VIP a try. And other times, folks never join VIP but this is ok, too. After all, don't you think that God may be using them in a different way for a different mission? Yep!
As the stack of postcards hits the mail, I pray that God would be at work in the lives of the people who receive them. I pray that he will move the hearts of people that he wants in VIP and lead them to our choir. And finally, I pray that God will help VIP and supply it with the singers it needs to be successful in ministry.
All that from a stack of postcards...
