I'm so glad that we have just 2 days left till we kick off the 2009-2010 Choir Year!
Yes, yes, I've been working through a list of things-you-have-to-do-before-your-choir comes. I've reviewed new music and ordered the pieces that I like (side note: there is a TON of bad, bad, bad choral music out there). I've marked the pieces I like with all sorts of notes, including one that says "Use this to announce Choir Tour 2012." Haha! I even bought a special book where I will faithfully record attendance...or try to!
But all this is just the prep work to the good stuff that starts when the VIPs walk through the door. It's hard to describe but there's this sort of electrical buzz in the air as they mix and mingle, and meet new people. As I watch the kids goof around through their opening games, I catch myself wondering -- who's going to step up and be a leader? Who's going to shock the world with a voice no one knew they had? Who's going to come in here and really make an impact on the world through VIP?
And then I usually get smacked with a soccer ball or flying shoe, and I realize that I'll get my answers in time. For tonight, we have fun, we meet new people, and finally (after a summer break that feels just a little too long to this director) -- we SING.
Monday can't come soon enough...
Welcome! Voices In Praise exists for the glory of God and in service to others. As the youth choir of Friendship United Methodist Church, the group is open to all youth in grades 6 -12 who have a desire to sing and a willingness to make the commitment to the group. Singers are not required to be a member of the church or to have any background in singing. Our doors are open to everyone!
The choir rehearses on Mondays. Girls rehearse from 6:30pm – 8pm; Guys rehearse from 7pm – 8:30pm.
